New quills, still soft to the touch. A mother hedgehog curls protectively around her newborn hoglets, their spines still pale, damp, and pliable — a brief window before they harden into proper armor. Nestled deep in garden grass, four tiny hoglets burrow against her belly while she keeps her dark eyes fixed forward, alert and unmoving, turning a quiet patch of lawn into a nursery.
