Foothold

The climbing order was clearly not put to a vote. Three American black bear cubs stack themselves up a single tree trunk like rungs on a ladder, and the arrangement is not going over well with everyone. The bottom cub bears the brunt of it — literally, with a sibling's paw planted square on its head — and answers with a wide-mouthed, unmistakably indignant roar. Golden backlight turns the whole clumsy pileup into a warm, funny family portrait.
