Glass Ceiling

Its skull is a window, and it's using it as one. Meet the barreleye — a deep-sea fish whose entire forehead is a dome of clear, fluid-filled tissue. Inside sit two tubular green eyes that swivel to stare straight up through its own transparent skull, scanning the dark water above for the silhouette of a meal, while a small, patient face waits below. Equal parts alien and oddly endearing, it turns transparency into a survival trick.
