This squid did not know the camera was already rolling. A juvenile bobtail squid turns full-face into the lens across four tight portraits, its saucer-sized eyes rimmed in copper and gold, skin freckled with fine chromatophore dots. Its eight arms sweep back over its crown like a startled quiff, one whip-thin tentacle tip poking straight up for good measure. Sideways or dead-on, it never quite loses that wide-eyed, just-woken-up look.
