This is not a bird that asks nicely. A young vulture squares up to the camera first with the flat, unimpressed stare of something that has already been kept waiting too long — head bristling with spiky grey down, skin creased with judgment. Patience runs out fast: its beak splits into a beak-sized yellow ravine, pink throat and full volume, announcing exactly what it wants and how soon. Subtlety was never part of the plan.
