Camouflage is a serious business until it isn't. A Tawny Frogmouth works through its entire repertoire here — the flat, heavy-lidded stare that makes it look carved from bark, the startled yellow-eyed blink, and the head-stretched pose it uses to pass as a broken branch. Then, without warning, the beak drops into an enormous heart-shaped gape, flashing pink or yellow, turning a motionless lump of wood into pure, open-mouthed drama.
